Scotstoun Stadium will play host to the second leg of this season's Varsity Match between the University of Strathclyde and the University of Glasgow on Friday 13 March, kick-off 6pm.

It is the second time the two sides have played at Scotstoun, with over 1,000 student supporters witnessing a thrilling 20-20 draw between the two sides in January 2019.

For the first time, the Varsity Match will be decided over two legs; Strathclyde currently hold the upper hand after winning the first game away at Old Anniesland back in September, recovering from a 9-0 half time deficit to win 9-17.

Strathclyde are looking to win their fourth consecutive Glasgow Rugby Varsity Trophy, having been victorious every year since the fixture’s inception in 2016.

With the BUCS [British Universities and Colleges Sport] fixture moved to a Friday evening instead of the traditional Wednesday afternoon, it is expected that this year’s attendance will vastly supersede that of last season with 3,000 tickets going on sale.

Tickets are available in advance at £5 for students and U18s and £10 for adults. All tickets bought on the day of the match will cost £10.

The home side currently sit sixth in BUCS North B, one place above their opponents to make March’s fixture a must-win for both sides.

The fixture announcement follows the news that the University of Strathclyde and Glasgow Warriors have extended their pioneering partnership for three years until 2022, with the Varsity Match an opportunity to celebrate the university and club's ongoing successful collaboration.

University of Strathclyde Director of Rugby Gary Strain said: “We’re very excited to play at the home of the Warriors again and showcase the partnership between the university and the club.

“The first leg away at Old Anniesland was a cracking game and we’ve put ourselves in a good position to be 2020 Varsity Champions with a good performance at Scotstoun in March.

“With the game being played on a Friday night and the full Main Stand at Scotstoun open we’re expecting an amazing atmosphere. I’m confident we can sell all 3000 tickets and hopefully the majority of them will be wearing maroon and supporting Strathclyde.”
