URC fixture update | 1872 Cup and Munster

URC fixture update | 1872 Cup and Munster

The United Rugby Championship have today confirmed the rescheduling of three of our remaining fixtures in the 2021/22 season.

Originally scheduled for Round 18 of the competition, the visit of Munster to Scotstoun has now been moved to Friday 11 February, with kick-off scheduled for 8.15pm.

The Scotstoun leg of the 1872 Cup will now be played on Friday 18 March (kick-off 7.35pm), having been postponed due to COVID-19 last month. Due to the lack of available weekends beyond the Six Nations window, it was not possible for URC fixture organisers to schedule this game at another time with any certainty.

As a result of the Munster fixture moving to its new date, the deciding match of the 1872 Cup will now be played in Round 18 at BT Murrayfield, which will take place on the weekend of 20/21/22 May. Exact details and broadcast arrangements will be confirmed in due course.

Match tickets for Glasgow Warriors v Munster will go on pre-sale to Warrior Nation Members at 10am on Thursday 27 January. General sale will open at 10am on Friday 28 January.

Match tickets for the rescheduled 1872 Cup fixture at Scotstoun Stadium remain valid for the new date. Season Ticket Members and Ticket Purchasers will receive more information about their purchases by email.

Glasgow Warriors, Managing Director, Al Kellock, said: “We’re pleased to have clarity over our outstanding fixtures for the remainder of the 2021/22 season, and to be able to play these fixtures in front of crowds. We’re also delighted to have the opportunity to play the deciding leg of 1872 Cup derbies with a full-strength squad out with the international window.

“Our thanks to the Warrior Nation for their continued support and flexibility at a time where our season has continued to be disrupted by COVID-19.”

David Jordan, Tournament Director, United Rugby Championship, said: “This is an innovative solution to help keep two derby matches outside of the Six Nations window and it is a great credit to all of the teams and broadcasters involved for their willingness to work with us in this situation.

“In these circumstances we hope that the fans of these teams will look forward to the derby games in Round 18 where so much will be at stake ahead of URC Quarter-finals. Of course, given the number of URC teams involved in EPCR knock-out fixtures it has not been possible to keep all of our derby games out of the Six Nations window, but as we continue to reschedule matches we hope to have another positive update shortly.”
