Third 1872 Cup fixture to be held at Scotstoun
Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby will contest next season’s 1872 Cup over three rounds, with Scotstoun hosting the final match of the series.
The festive double-header, over the 2018/19 Christmas and New Year period, will be played at BT Murrayfield and Scotstoun respectively.
Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby have confirmed, in conjunction with Scottish Rugby, that the third leg of the 1872 Cup will be played at Scotstoun with an increased capacity. The decision has been taken following engagement with supporters and review of operational and logistical elements.
The third leg match will be included in all Glasgow Warriors Season Ticket Memberships for the coming season. Season Ticket Members will get 11 Guinness PRO14 matches and three Heineken Champions Cup games in 2018/19.
The match will continue to form part of the Edinburgh Season Ticket Membership package.
Any remaining tickets will be made available to Warrior Nation Members to purchase.
The 2019 ‘Silver Saturday’ event will retain the traditional Cup Finals Day format for the coming season. Fans attending the event will be able to watch the Glasgow Warriors vs Edinburgh Rugby Guinness PRO14 match on big screens at BT Murrayfield as part of the extensive matchday experience.
Glasgow Warriors Managing Director Nathan Bombrys said: “I know the Warrior Nation will be looking forward to hosting Edinburgh at Scotstoun on the final day of the Guinness PRO14 season.
"I am confident, knowing the passion of our fans, it will be a fantastic occasion with a real cup final atmosphere and we will be doing all we can to win back the 1872 Cup from our close Scottish rivals and secure a league match victory in the process.”
