Ruaridh Jackson to return for Munster match ball delivery

The Warrior Nation will have the chance to welcome club centurion Ruaridh Jackson back to Scotstoun Stadium this Friday night, with the full-back returning to deliver the match ball for the United Rugby Championship fixture against Munster.

It will be a first chance for the Scotstoun faithful to show their appreciation for the former Scotland star since his retirement, after the COVID-19 suspension of sport denied him a proper farewell in his final season as a professional.

Jackson, who represented Glasgow Warriors on 163 occasions over two spells (2006-14 and 2017-20) and chalked up 499 points for the club, hung up his boots at the end of 2019/20 season.

“It will be awesome to be back at Scotstoun Stadium,” he told glasgowwarriors.org.

“I left in the pandemic so this will give me the opportunity to say a proper goodbye.

“The fans are a huge part of the club. I was at Glasgow for a long time and saw how the crowds grew from days at Hughenden through Firhill and on to Scotstoun.

“The noise and atmosphere that they create is phenomenal and the Warrior Nation will always have a place in my memories of Glasgow.”

Friday night’s Round Eight fixture in the URC is a vital match-up between Glasgow and Munster, who sit two points apart in the standings – Glasgow inside the top four in third place and in pursuit of a playoff berth, and Munster two points back in fifth.

Jackson continued: “I played in some amazing matches against Munster, and I relished those battles.

“I remember in 2013 when we put 50 points on them (51-24) at Scotstoun – it was a crazy game, but where everything just clicked for us.

“Then the following season, we had a much closer game where we beat them by a point to reach our first final (16-15). That was a particularly special memory.

“Friday is another big game against Munster, we’re close in the league and it’s set to be another absolute battle. I can’t wait.”
