McCrea Financial Services Warrior of the Month | Dobie wins February trophy

Glasgow Warriors scrum-half Jamie Dobie has claimed the McCrea Financial Services Warrior of the Month award for February, after a month that saw the 19-year-old’s performances earnt him his first call up to the Scotland squad.

In another hotly contested poll, the man from Inverness edged out Argentinian international Enrique Pieretto to take home the club’s monthly award for the first time in his career.

Fresh off agreeing a new deal in January to remain at Scotstoun for the next few seasons, Dobie’s performances in February’s games against Ulster and Leinster showcased why the Glasgow were keen to keep the livewire scrum-half.

Against Ulster, the former Merchiston player showcased his speed and ability to find a gap breaking the Ulster defensive line twice and beating five defenders in the process. On the other side of the ball, Dobie showcased his physicality in defence tackling Ulster men behind the gain line.

Continuing his run of being involved in every Glasgow matchday 23 since November’s away victory against Cardiff Blues Dobie once again stepped up to the mark in the club’s game against Leinster, playing a key role in Glasgow’s second-half resurgence.

On receiving the award Dobie said: “I’m delighted to pick up the Warriors of the Month Award. It’s nice to get the recognition from the fans.

“If I’m honest it’s just nice to be getting back to back games and getting game time. It’s been a long time since anyone in the team has had back to back rugby.

“It’s been good to get out there with a lot of the other young boys. Obviously, results haven’t gone our way, but I feel like we’re building in the right direction.

“Getting the Scotland call was a massive privilege. Spending time in camp has been a great opportunity to learn from some top players and be part of a high-performance environment.”

On today’s match against Zebre, he said: “I’m looking forward to getting out there again this weekend. It’s nice to be able to a short turn around to address some of the mistakes from last week and get back out there hopefully get the result we’ve been striving for.”

Glasgow Warriors head coach, Danny Wilson, said: “Jamie brings good energy to the team.

“He works hard in training and has turned that hard work into some good performances.

“It’s exciting to have another Scottish nine coming through the system.”
