Kennedy extends contract with Glasgow Warriors

Glasgow Warriors scrum-half Sean Kennedy has put pen to paper on a new contract extension with the club, pledging his immediate future to the Scotstoun outfit ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

The Alloa RFC product has made 19 appearances across two stints with the Warriors to date, most recently in the 40-12 victory over Zebre Parma at Scotstoun earlier this month.

He was also named in the 32-man squad to travel to South Africa for the club’s crucial upcoming United Rugby Championship double-header, as the Warriors face the DHL Stormers and Vodacom Bulls on consecutive weekends in the Rainbow Nation.

A short-term loan deal in the 2012/13 season saw Kennedy become the 208th player to represent Glasgow Warriors when he made his debut against Zebre, the first of seven appearances in his initial spell.

Having also represented Edinburgh and London Irish, the 30-year-old ended a seven-year spell between Glasgow appearances when coming off the bench against the Ospreys in October 2020.

His sole try for the club to date came in December 2020, touching down against the Dragons in the Guinness PRO14 at Scotstoun.

The cousin of Edinburgh and Scotland second-rower Grant Gilchrist, Kennedy is also a capped Scotland 7s international and helped the men in blue to the Challenge Trophy at the 2019 Hong Kong 7s.

“I'm happy to be staying with the club,” Kennedy told glasgowwarriors.org.

“I enjoy coming to work everyday - it's a great club with great people.

“There's a strong group of scrum-halves at the club and it's great to compete against them every week for the jersey. Despite being a more senior player, I learn new things every day and I have a great time doing it.

The club feels like we're building towards something and I’m looking forward to continuing to be a part of it.”

Head Coach Danny Wilson added: “Sean is an integral part of our squad.

“He's an extremely good professional who's played well for us when he's had his opportunity.

“He’s a popular member of the playing group, and we're looking forward to continuing to work with him in the seasons ahead.”
