Glasgow Warriors extend partnership with Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity

Glasgow Warriors will be continuing their support of Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity for the next two seasons, after renewing the successful partnership until at least the summer of 2022.

The renewal follows a two-year period that has seen the partnership go from strength to strength, with the club supporting the charity both on and off the pitch since joining forces back in 2018.

The squad’s annual Christmas visit last December was followed by the sold-out Scrumbags gig at Glasgow’s Hard Rock Café earlier this year, where supporters helped to raise £9,648.36 on a night that will live long in the memory.

Glasgow players will also be supporting the charity’s Pedal It Purple virtual fundraising challenge, which takes place across the month of October. The initiative sees people from across Scotland get on their bikes, with the aim of raising funds to support seriously ill children, their families and the NHS heroes who take care of them at Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Children.

“We are humbled to be able to continue supporting such a worthwhile cause as Glasgow’s Children’s Hospital Charity,” said Glasgow Warriors Managing Director Nathan Bombrys.

“The charity has touched the lives of people across the city, looking after the health of our children when they need it most.

“While we have been focussed on our return to rugby over the recent period, we cannot forget the vital services provide by the Glasgow Children’s Hospital. We are pleased to be able to continue our work with the hospital, and we will be aiming to put some significant support behind them in the season ahead.”

Shona Cardle, CEO of Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, said: “Each day, hundreds of children are still cared for in the children's hospital, neonatal units, and outpatient services across Greater Glasgow and Clyde. However, as fundraising events continue to be cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic, the pressure on the future of our life-changing projects is greater than ever before.

“We are delighted that Glasgow Warriors have chosen us as their official charity partner again for another two seasons to help us continue to be there for our hospital families who need us most. The squad and everyone behind the scenes at the club have provided such wonderful support over the years with hospital visits and fundraising activities.

“The club’s ongoing commitment to the charity will help to fund our life-changing projects, and help us transform hospital experiences for young patients beyond the Covid-19 crisis.

“During these challenging times, it’s always humbling to hear about supporters like Glasgow Warriors going to such great lengths to fundraise for us. We’d like to wish the full team all the very best in their support of Pedal It Purple this month. We know they’ll knock it out the park and inspire so many others to get involved along the way.”
