Glasgow Warriors announce 2019/20 Season Awards Week

Glasgow Warriors will be celebrating the best of the 2019/20 season so far to kick-off the month of June, as the club takes its annual awards online for a week-long look back with the Warrior Nation.

Beginning on
Tuesday 2 June, two award winners will be revealed each evening on the club’s
official social media channels celebrating the players to have turned in
eye-catching performances across the campaign to date.

For the
sixth year in succession the awards will be sponsored by The Malcolm Group,
with the Renfrewshire-based company and long-standing sponsor of Glasgow
Warriors remaining one of the premier names in logistics and construction
across both Scotland and the UK.

The Warrior
Nation will also have the chance to pay tribute to those confirmed to be
leaving the club so far on Saturday 6 June, including club centurions Jonny
Gray, Ruaridh Jackson and DTH van der Merwe, co-captain Callum Gibbins, head
coach Dave Rennie and assistant Jason O’Halloran, all of whom have been involved in their final match at
Scotstoun due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation.

The week
will culminate with the announcement of the 2019/20 McCrea Financial Services
Player of the Season, which will be decided by a supporters’ vote held on
glasgowwarriors.org. Details of this vote – including the nominees – will be
announced later this afternoon.

Ali Price
took home the prize in 2018/19, with other award winners including Rob Harley –
who took home the Denholm Oilfield Services Player’s Player of the Season award
– and the Land Rover Young Player of the Season, Stafford McDowall.

“We’re excited to be able to celebrate the best moments and
performers of the season so far alongside our fans,” Glasgow Warriors Managing
Director Nathan Bombrys told glasgowwarriors.org.

“Our End of
Season Awards Dinner has grown into an important event in our season, as it
provides an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our players, and to
thank those individuals who are leaving the club before they depart.
Unfortunately, the event cannot take place this year, but we feel it is vitally
important that we find a way to bring the club together to recognise the
achievements of our players.

“Over the
course of the week, we will be able to pay tribute to the group moving on at the
end of their current contracts which includes Head Coach Dave Rennie and his
assistant Jason O’Halloran, along with some all-time great Warriors like Jonny
Gray, Ruaridh Jackson and DTH van der Merwe. We wanted to give them the
in-person send-off they deserve, and whilst that may not be possible at this
current moment, it’s something we hope to be able to do in future.

“We are
grateful to our outstanding family of sponsors and partners for their support
of the new Awards Week, and in particular to The Malcolm Group for agreeing to
continue their long association as main sponsor of the event.

“We hope the
Warrior Nation will tune in over the course of the week and celebrate
everything that’s good about our club with us.”
