Glasgow agree permanent deal with Bean

Second-rower Lewis Bean will be joining Glasgow Warriors on a permanent basis ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, after the Yorkshireman agreed to make the switch north from Northampton Saints.

The
28-year-old returns to Scotstoun following a successful loan spell earlier in
the 2020/21 season, in which his industrious performances made
an instant impression upon the Warrior Nation.

Bean becomes
the latest addition to a pack already boosted by the re-signings of Scott
Cummings and Tom Gordon, as well as the impending arrivals of prop duo Jamie
Bhatti and Simon Berghan prior to the new campaign getting underway.

Having made
his debut off the bench against Ulster in Belfast, Bean quickly integrated himself
into the Glasgow pack to retain his place in the matchday 23 for the following
four Guinness PRO14 fixtures.

The 6’6”
second-rower crossed for his first try in a Glasgow jersey in the final
appearance of his short-term loan spell, diving over from close range in
January’s clash with Edinburgh at BT Murrayfield.

In addition
to Northampton Saints, Bean has also represented both Worcester Warriors and
Moseley prior to moving to Scotstoun.

The man from
Beverly is also a Corporal in Second Battalion Rifles, serving on two tours of
Afghanistan in both Helmand Province and Kabul.

He was
selected for the 100
th anniversary Babcock Trophy match between the
Army and the Navy at Twickenham in 2017, as well as representing the service’s
age-grade outfits.

On his signing
Bean told glasgowwarriors.org: “When I came to the Warriors the lads made me feel really welcome and I
liked the way they played. I was delighted when I heard I’d have the chance to
return.

“Playing
rugby is my number one priority and I know at Glasgow I’ll get good game time.

“I
really enjoyed working with Danny [Wilson] and the other coaches — they’re great to work
with and really know their stuff.

“I’m buzzing
to get back up to Glasgow and make some more memories with the boys.”

Glasgow
Warriors Head Coach Danny Wilson added: “It’s great to be able to
secure Lewis’ services for next season.

“He’s a
big 130kg second rower who’s abrasive in both attack and defence.

“Adding
a player of Lewis’ size and power in the pack for next season is a boost and
we’re looking forward to welcoming him back to Scotstoun in summer.”

Meanwhile,
the club is also able to announce that Dylan Evans has returned to the club on
a short-term deal to provide injury cover at loose-head prop.

The
Australian arrives at Scotstoun from the Scarlets for a second stint, having
previously come off the bench against Edinburgh at BT Murrayfield back in
August.
