First professional deal for Jordan

Glasgow Warriors have signed utility back Tom Jordan on a short-term deal, with the 23-year-old joining from the 2021 FOSROC Super6 champions Ayrshire Bulls with immediate effect.

The newest addition to Danny Wilson’s playing group has had previous involvement with Glasgow Warriors, having trained with the Scotstoun club during the 2020/21 season. Equally adept at centre as he is at fly-half, he links up with his new team-mates after an impressive campaign in this year’s FOSROC Super6.

His tally of 49 points from nine appearances was the fourth-highest in the competition, with only two players having beaten more defenders than the 26 passed by Jordan over the course of the season.

Defensively, too, the fly-half made an impressive contribution, with eight turnovers in the pink and black of Ayrshire Bulls.

Jordan’s campaign culminated in being named Player of the Match for his performance in the 2021 FOSROC Super6 final, contributing 16 points from the boot to the Bulls’ 26-16 victory over Southern Knights.

The move sees Jordan, who hails from Auckland, New Zealand, join the likes of fellow backs and former Bulls Ross Thompson and Ollie Smith in making the switch to professional rugby in the last 12 months.

“I’ve been here in and out for training over the last year or so, but to sign a professional contract here is awesome,” Jordan told glasgowwarriors.org.

“I’m over the moon and I can’t wait to get stuck in with the boys for the rest of the season.

“If I get the opportunity to run out in front of a full house at Scotstoun, that’d be amazing. The crowds so far have been unreal so far this season, and they really give such an amazing atmosphere.

“I really like to chuck the ball around and put others in space, so I’m looking forward to playing the Glasgow style of rugby and playing some heads-up footy.”

Head Coach Danny Wilson added: “We’re pleased to be able to bring Tom into our environment.

“He’s been someone that has impressed us whenever he’s come in to train with us – he’s a hard-working player and he’s earned his opportunity.

“He also impressed us throughout the FOSROC Super6 season when we watched Ayrshire Bulls’s fixtures – his Player of the Match performance in the final showed just what he can do, and he’s a player that we think will fit into our system really well.”
