First call-up for Smith as four Warriors added to Scotland squad

Glasgow Warriors full-back Ollie Smith has earned his first senior international call-up, after the 21-year-old was added to Gregor Townsend’s Scotland squad ahead of Saturday afternoon’s Guinness Six Nations clash with France at BT Murrayfield.

The former Scotland U20 star has been in sublime form in recent weeks, having kick-started his campaign with two tries in a seven-minute cameo off the bench against La Rochelle.

Smith then led all Glasgow players by making 86 metres with ball in hand in a composed performance in victory away to Connacht, before a try-scoring display on Saturday night saw him claim the Player of the Match award in the 13-3 win over Benetton at Scotstoun.

The full-back is one of four Warriors added to the Scotland setup ahead of this weekend’s meeting with Les Bleus, as Townsend’s men look to bounce back from a narrow defeat in Cardiff last time out.

Kiran McDonald will once again be looking to further his case for a first cap in the dark blue jersey, having previously been selected for the subsequently-cancelled 2021 summer tour.

The 27-year-old has made nine appearances in Glasgow colours to date so far this season, the former Glasgow Accies man equally adept in both the second-row and the back-row.

Simon Berghan returns to the international arena for the first time since the famous 27-23 win over France in Paris last March, having missed the Autumn Nations Series due to injury.

Having returned to Glasgow action against La Rochelle at the end of January, the tight-head has gone on to start both of the club’s last two fixtures, helping the Warriors to home victories over Munster and Benetton.

Oli Kebble completes the quartet of Warriors linking up with the Scotland squad at Oriam, as he looks to add to his 11 Scotland caps to date over the remainder of the Guinness Six Nations.

A powerful ball-carrying performance in Saturday’s win over Benetton showcased the prop’s ability around the field, with the 29-year-old also turning in an impressive display at the set-piece.

Scotland take on France at BT Murrayfield this Saturday afternoon at BT Murrayfield, with kick-off scheduled for 2.15pm.
