Cardiff to host 2020 Guinness PRO14 Final

The 2020 Guinness PRO14 Final will be played at Cardiff City Stadium, the first time a Welsh venue has been selected for the competition’s showpiece event in over a decade.

Taking place
on June 20, the fixture will see the competition’s victors decided on Welsh
soil for the first time since Munster claimed victory over Neath in the 2003
Celtic League Final at the Principality Stadium.

The event
has seen four record attendances in succession, the most recent of which came when
47,128 packed into Celtic Park for the 2019 Guinness PRO14 Final between
Glasgow Warriors and Leinster..

Opened in
2009 and with a capacity of 33,280, Cardiff City Stadium has played host to a
host of notable occasions in recent years.

As well as
being the home ground for the Welsh men’s football
team, the arena was the host venue for the 2011 European Challenge Cup Final,
the 2014 UEFA Super Cup and the 2017 UEFA Women’s Champions League Final.

It has also played host to the top tier of English football, with tenants Cardiff City FC having competed in the Premier League across two different spells during the last decade.

Speaking at
the launch, Guinness PRO14 CEO Martin Anayi said: “We have
long heard the voices of the Welsh fans who wanted to see the Guinness PRO14
Final take place here and it’s great that all of the pieces have finally fallen
into place for 2020. Choosing Cardiff City Stadium as the location for next
year’s Final allows us to aim for a sell-out event after four successive years
of setting new attendance records.

“Although
the stadium itself may be known for the round ball, Cardiff is one of the most
attractive rugby cities across the world and we hope that it’s not just the
local fans who are excited, but everyone from around our competing nations and
beyond.”

Tickets will
go on general sale on Wednesday 28 August, with prices starting at just £13 for
concessions and £26 for adults (subject to booking fees).

Fans can
gain access to an exclusive presale window for 48 hours on Monday, August 26 by
signing up as a member of PRO14 Xtra – visit xtra.pro14rugby.org or download
the Official PRO14 App to gain access.
