Ross Thompson

Fly-half


A Fosroc Scottish Rugby Academy Stage 3 player, Ross Thompson was aligned to the Glasgow Warriors prior to the 2018/19 season.

He made his Glasgow Warriors debut in the club’s first match of 2021, coming off the bench against Edinburgh at BT Murrayfield.

A week later the fly-half was the star of the show at Scotstoun, kicking 13 points on his first start for the club on a composed Player of the Match-winning performance against Edinburgh.

The Edinburgh-born number 10 has represented Scotland at U16, U18 and U20 level, including at the 2018 World Rugby U20 Championship.

His senior Scotland debut came in October 2021, coming off the bench against Tonga at BT Murrayfield and setting up club-mate Kyle Steyn for the final try of the match.

Thompson comes from a sporting background, with his grandfather a Scotland cricket international and his uncle capped by the country in rugby league, whilst cousin Kirsty Gilmour is an Olympian in badminton.

The Edinburgh-born number ten was named as Scotland’s vice-captain ahead of the 2019 World Rugby Under-20 Championship, going on to play a part in all of his team’s five matches in Argentina.
