Josh McKay

Full-back

Having stood out in Super Rugby for the Highlanders in 2020, Josh McKay put pen to paper on a deal with Glasgow Warriors in the summer of 2021.

The Christchurch-born flyer touched down in Glasgow in November 2021 after helping Canterbury to the semi-finals of the NPC, with the Warrior Nation already well aware of his prodigious talent.

His debut came in an impressive 33-14 win over the Dragons at Scotstoun in December 2021, with McKay turning in an assured performance at full-back that included a world-class try-saver on Sam Davies.

McKay then notched his first try in Glasgow colours in the club’s first match of 2022, sidestepping two defenders to finish a well-crafted team-move against the Ospreys at Scotstoun.

The full-back scored Glasgow’s first try of the 2023/24 season, crossing for the opening try in a 43-25 win over Leinster at Scotstoun in his first Scotstoun appearance for six months.

Rated as one of the fastest players in Super Rugby during his stint with the Highlanders, McKay is also capable of playing on the wing in addition to full-back.

He shot to prominence in 2017 as part of the all-conquering New Zealand U20 side that claimed the World Rugby U20 Championship in Georgia.

Part of a back three that included future All Blacks Will Jordan and Caleb Clarke, the speedster crossed for two tries in the tournament, including in the 64-17 demolition of England in the final.

McKay then impressed in the 2019 Mitre10 Cup for Canterbury, crossing for 11 tries in 11 outings for the men in red and black.
