PROFILE

The utility back’s first spell at the club saw him join Glasgow Warriors from South African side, Western Province Stormers and made his debut against Montpellier in December 2017.

He made 49 appearances during that initial stint, scoring 12 tries under first Dave Rennie, then Danny Wilson.

He joined midway through the 2017/18 season with his Western Province farewell concluding in the 2017 Currie Cup final, where Jones scored a brace and was named Man of the Match in a 33-21 victory.

Jones’ first try for his new club came in an 18-17 defeat to Edinburgh at BT Murrayfield, finishing off a flowing team move.

He made his Scotland debut in 2016 coming off the bench against Japan, and then got his first start a few months later against Australia, scoring two tries in the game. A further brace followed in the famous 25-13 victory over England in the 2018 Six Nations, his efforts helping Scotland to a first Calcutta Cup win in a decade.

Jones studied at the University of Cape Town, where he caught the eye of Western Province.

The centre crossed for the third – and ultimately match-winning – try in the 2024 BKT URC Grand Final, helping his side to a 21-16 win over the Vodacom Bulls in Pretoria to seal only a second-ever league title for the club.

His international form in 2024/25 – including a hat-trick in Scotland’s win over Italy in the Guinness Six Nations – saw the centre receive the Harper Macleod Test Player of the Season award at the club’s annual Awards Dinner.

Jones capped his sublime campaign with selection for the 2025 British & Irish Lions tour of Australia, featuring in all three Tests and scoring a try in the decisive second Test win to help seal a series victory.
