George Turner

Hooker

George Turner made his debut for Glasgow Warriors against Connacht in September 2017.

Turner signed a two-year contract with Glasgow Warriors in January 2018, having originally joined the club on a season-long loan from Edinburgh ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.

A former Macphail Scholarship recipient, Turner made 19 appearances in his first season with the Scotstoun side, crossing the whitewash four times and receiving a nomination for Player of the Season at the club’s annual Awards Dinner.

He has gone from strength to strength since arriving at Scotstoun, blending dynamic ball-carrying with powerful defence and set-piece accuracy; a highlight-reel-worthy try against Sale Sharks in January 2020 showcased his acceleration and footwork, capping off a 45-7 victory in the Heineken Champions Cup.

The hooker received a call-up to Gregor Townsend’s first Scotland squad, travelling with the team on their 2017 summer tour before making his international debut against Samoa in November 2017.

Turner became the first Scotland forward to score a hat-trick of tries since Ally Hogg in 2007 when he crossed for a treble against Canada in June 2018, before crossing the line once more in a 44-15 win over Argentina a fortnight later.

He made his Guinness Six Nations debut in February 2021, turning in an all-action performance – including a try assist for Duhan van der Merwe’s crucial score – in Scotland’s first victory at twickenham since 1983.
