London Scottish v Glasgow Warriors
Glasgow Warriors completed their pre-season campaign with a 38-19 win over London Scottish in Richmond this afternoon.
It was Glasgow’s first win since they beat Munster in the PRO12 Play-Off last May and was a morale boosting victory ahead of the GUINNESS PRO12 opener with Leinster at Scotstoun next Saturday.
Mark Bennett and Peter Murchie each scored a brace of tries, while Jerry Yanuyanutawa and Lee Jones also got on the scoresheet for the visitors.
The rest of Glasgow’s points came from the boots of Duncan Weir, Henry Pyrgos and Connor Braid, who slotted the conversions.
After the game head coach Gregor Townsend said he was very happy with the work the players have put in during pre-season and believes the squad is in good shape ahead of the new season.
He said: “The players have put in a lot of effort during pre-season and put a lot into today’s game.
“It was a real contest, especially in the second half and it was a different game to last week. It was a bit stop-start today, partly because of accuracy and partly because there were a lot of penalties.
“Harlequins and London Scottish have tested us in different ways."
In a repeat of last season final the Warriors face Leinster at Scotstoun on Saturday live on Sky Sports and Townsend is hoping for a big crowd to get behind the team.
“The support has really grown over the last few seasons and having a big crowd gives the players a boost and it was great to see so many Glasgow supporters at today’s game.
“We’re expecting a big crowd next week and I know the players will put in a big performance for the fans.
“Glasgow and Leinster both play a high tempo game and focus a lot on the contact area to create quick ball, so they’re usually really good games and very competitive.”
