Rennie happy with 23-man performance in South Africa

Trailing at half time, Glasgow’s fitness prevailed as they ran in five second half scores and Head Coach Rennie was happy with how all remembers of his 23 performed at altitude.

Speaking after the game he said: “I thought there was a lot of massive work from our big men up front, our wingers were also excellent and it’s hard to look past the engine room guys. Rob Harley, Jonny Gray and Callum Gibbins’ efforts were massive.

“Our half backs played really well. Adam’s goal kicking was exceptional and as the game grew, especially in the second half, Adam’s control was much better. He’s a young man who’s getting better and better, so we were happy with his contribution.

“It was also great to see Ali out there, he’s a real threat getting on the end of offloads and scored a couple of tries from that.

“Alex Allan had an impact off the bench, as did George Horne who found himself in an unfamiliar position on the wing but still managed to grab himself a try.

“We are a very fit side, we’ve got a lot of powerful, explosive players who demonstrated their fitness while the opposition were under fatigue. It made a big difference for us in the second half.”

Glasgow have now won their opening three fixtures and travel to Cape Town today to prepare for next Saturday’s game against the Southern Kings in Port Elizabeth.

Despite being happy with his side’s performance Rennie is hoping to see improvement again on the south coast: “It was important that we got a result and getting 5 points was a bonus, we’re going to head down to Cape Town and prepare down there before heading to Port Elizabeth.

“It’s the good thing about being away we spend a lot of time together and the group gets a little tighter. The win helps that but it’s only a start, it’s a long season as we know and there’s room for improvement.”

year to find that out.”
