Harley: Connacht perfect place to start

Rob Harley has expressed the excitement within the Warriors camp for the return of the GUINNESS PRO12 and says there is no better place to start than away to the reigning champions.

Warriors lost consecutively at the Sportsground to conclude last year’s campaign but Harley insists the whole squad are in a positive place and ready for the start of the season.

“I think it’s a great game to start with” he said, “you always want to go to the toughest places and prove yourself and there’s no better place to start than the defending champions.

“There is a real excitement about getting back out there, you have the summer off and you miss playing. It’s exciting and it’s fun to be back.

“The Connacht game is what we’ve been building towards during pre-season and everyone is excited about getting out there and playing and putting down a marker in the first game of the season.”

Harley insists that the semi-final defeat last season is a distant memory and that the focus amongst the squad is firmly on the new season and Saturday’s game.

“We talked about the two losses at the end of last season and taken points to review but now the focus is on this game on Saturday and our attention is all on what we can do to win.

”Last year’s campaign got off to a losing start for the Warriors, going down to the Scarlets at Scotstoun and Harley insists the squad is in a much better place this time around.

“I guess it will be different to the start of last season as there was players away (at the Rugby World Cup) so the squad was more divided.

“We had more players away at the Rugby World Cup than any team in the world, so this time there’s a lot more togetherness in the squad, we’ve had a chance to train together and work on our structures and hopefully the time that we’ve spent together is going to pay off.”
