Stirling County to host pre-season fixture against Canada

Glasgow Warriors will play a pre-season friendly against Canada ‘A’ at Bridgehaugh Park in Stirling on Tuesday 30 August (kick-off 7.35pm).Glasgow Warriors will play Canada 'A' in Stirling later this month

The game will be played four days before the eagerly anticipated GUINNESS PRO12 opener against Connacht in Galway on Saturday 3 September.

The non-televised match, which is being hosted by Stirling County RFC, will be the final pre-season fixture for the Warriors, following games against Harlequins and Gloucester.

The capacity for this game will be limited to 3,000.

Canada’s senior men’s head coach Mark Anscombe has named a 26-man ‘A’ team that will tour the UK, taking on Doncaster and Ulster ahead of the game against the Warriors.

Their squad features 11 players who have test caps to their name. Glasgow visited Halifax in Nova Scotia last year playing the Canadians in a Rugby World Cup warm-up match and were narrowly defeated 19-12.

Canada international prop Djustice Sears-Duru could feature for the Warriors.

The game will take place at Bridgehaugh due to an artificial pitch being installed at Scotstoun Stadium.

Glasgow Warriors first home match of the 2016/17 season will be against Leinster on Saturday 10 September (kick-off 3pm).

Official kit supplier Macron will have a shop open at Bridgehaugh giving supporters the chance to purchase the new home and alternate kit for the first time, with exclusive pictures available tomorrow.

The team will wear the new Macron home shirt for the first time on the night.

Tickets will be priced at £15 for adults and £5 for under-18s and season ticket members have an exclusive 24 hour window to purchase tickets from 2pm today, before the general sale of tickets.

Glasgow Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend said: "It will be a really good challenge for us to play Canada 'A' ahead of our first GUINNESS PRO12 fixture.

"We enjoyed our trip to Nova Scotia last year and we're looking forward to welcoming Canada to Scotland later this month.

"It'll be a good opportunity for our supporters to see the see team in action, ahead of our first PRO12 game on the road, and we're excited to be taking a pre-season fixture to Stirling."

President of Stirling County RFC, John Wright said: "We're looking forward to hosting Glasgow Warriors and Canada 'A' at Bridgehaugh later this month.

"It's fantastic that such a high profile match will be played at Stirling County and we'd encourage everyone associated with the club to attend what should be an exciting game of rugby."

Season ticket members can purchase tickets from 2pm today and will be sent a link in a separate email shortly. The general sale of tickets will commence at 2pm on Wednesday 17 August from and over the phone on 0844 800 3490.
