Clegg returns to Glasgow

Rory Clegg has re-joined Glasgow Warriors and will be available for selection for tomorrow's sold-out match against Leinster at Scotstoun, after five months in France with Oyonnax.Rory Clegg has returned to the Warriors on a deal until May 2017

The stand-off, who arrived in Glasgow yesterday, has signed a deal until at least May 2017, subject to a medical.

Clegg acted as cover for the Warriors during the Rugby World Cup period and impressed, scoring 48 points in five appearances.

The Hannover-born 26-year-old, who has played five times for Oyonnax in the Top 14 and European Rugby Champions Cup, had two stints with Newcastle Falcons – making 50 appearances for the Aviva Premiership side.

He previously made 55 appearances for Harlequins over four seasons at Twickenham Stoop and was part of the squad which won the Aviva Premiership title in 2012.

Clegg has represented England Saxons and England under-20s.

Hooker Corey Flynn and winger Leonardo Sarto have already been recruited by the Warriors ahead of next season.

Speaking to glasgowwarriors.org, Rory Clegg said: “I'm over the moon to be back in Glasgow.

"The style of play really suits me and I'm hopeful I can develop further now I'm back, because I enjoyed the few months that I was here earlier in the season.

"I know most of the boys and the coaches, so that should really help me hit the ground running.

"It's great to secure a longer contract with the Warriors and I want to make the most of it.

"I really like the city, the way the team play and the boys are a great bunch of lads."

Glasgow Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend said: “It's great to have Rory back at the club.

“He had already agreed a one-year deal for next season, but with Finn Russell getting injured against France and both Duncan Weir and Peter Horne with Scotland, we’re delighted to get Rory here early.

“He did very well during his time with us at the start of this season and we expect him to settle quickly and compete hard for the fly-half spot.

“His style of play fits very well with how we want to take the game to the opposition, and his kicking from hand and at goal is of a very high level.

"It will be great to work with him again.”
