Warriors Limber Up For Castres Run Out

Head coach Gregor Townsend has today named a 26-man squad for tomorrow night's training match against Castres in Lacaune, Southern France.

Head coach Gregor Townsend has today named a 26-man squad for tomorrow night's training match against Castres in Lacaune, Southern France.

The training match is being staged under the auspices of the Challenge Vaquerin rugby festival, and will see the Warriors get their first run out of the close season ahead of friendlies against Sale Sharks (Mark Cueto testimonial, Heywood Road, Saturday 18 August) and Exeter Chiefs (Millbrae, Ayr RFC, Thursday 23 August).

The Warriors squad features_two club players, Dundee HSFP lock Andrew Redmayne, and Gala scrum-half George Graham, who have spent the week with the group in France.

Ten of the players who contributed to Scotland's successful summer tour joined the main party on Wednesday to begin their process of re-integration, but none of them will be involved against Castres.

The starting line-up features four new signings: outside centre Byron McGuigan, Fraser Thomson on the wing, Angus Macdonald (pictured) at blindside flanker and Tim Swinson in the boiler house.

Chris Fusaro, who received Player of the Season awards from the club, his teammates and supporters last term, will captain the team in the absence of regular skipper Al Kellock.

Ryan Wilson is named among the replacements as he continues his recovery from the knee injury he sustained against Cardiff Blues back in March. Ed Kalman also makes a welcome return from a neck complaint and will start at tight-head prop.

Townsend told www.glasgowwarriors.org: "We"ve had an excellent week so far in France, with the guys continuing to work hard on both their conditioning and their skills ahead of the new season.

"As we"ve already said, the session against Castres is very much a training game for us, and all 26 players will be involved at some stage in proceedings.

"I"m looking forward to seeing the players in action as we gear up for the Sale and Exeter games and, ultimately, the start of the RaboDirect PRO12.

"It's a good opportunity for some of our new signings to get to know their teammates in a match situation, and for Andrew Redmayne and George Graham to get an idea of what's required at this level.

"We"re not in a position to be bringing either player in on a contracted basis, but this week has given us a chance to have a good look at their attributes, and they are both very promising players.

"Chris Fusaro is a worthy captain of the side with Al Kellock not involved. He had a fantastic season last year, and has returned even more hungry to do well and keep progressing. He embodies what you want to see in a player: excellent ability allied to absolute determination and selflessness."_
