Glasgow Warriors put in a vigorous performance in their second and final game of the Challenge Auvergne tonight against host side Clermont Auvergne.

Jason White's Clermont just edged the encounter, leading 5-0 at half-time, before sealing the win in the second period with a converted try to win 12-0.

The Warriors have conceded just three tries in two games against stern French opposition and will return to the UK on Saturday before a week's break ahead of two UK dates.

Reflecting on a positive pre-season camp in Issoire, head coach Sean Lineen said: "It was a fantastic display against a strong Clermont side who start their Top 14 season next week against Burgoin.

"I'm particularly pleased with our defence. The players defended really hard and Clermont scored their first try just before half time and their second after being camped out in our 22 for 15 minutes. That's testament to the players and the work we've done.

"We've come together well as a group and used a lot of young players like Peter Horne, Peter Murchie, Jon Welsh, Pat MacArthur and Dave McCall.

"Unfortunately there is one injury and it is Richie Gray who will be out for a couple of months after dislocating his elbow."

The Warriors will continue their pre-season preparations against Doncaster at Castle Park on Friday 21 August (kick-off 7:30pm) before their final outing against London Wasps at Firhill on Friday 28 August (kick-off 7:30pm).

Glasgow open their Magners League campaign at home to Munster on Friday 4 September (kick-off 8pm).
