Friday Nights Confirmed As Squad Returns Home Triumphant

ImageThe triumphant Glasgow Warriors squad will return to Scotland today after lifting the XV Challenge Vacquerin title in France over the weekend with convincing victories over Castres and Beziers.

The squad had planned to carry the enormous prize on board their flight home, however, the sheer size of the trophy meant it had to be brought back by road in the Citroen sponsored team van.

With the trophy in the arms of a delighted captain Alastair Kellock before it_made its journey_to_Glasgow, the 6ft 8in lock said: 'the tour was hard work for all the guys with intense, specialist training every day. The facilities were top notch as was the weather.

"All-in-all, it's a real confidence boost ahead of the new season to be travelling home from such a prestigious tournament with the trophy in hand.

"We"ve now got the week off before we continue preparations for our next pre-season test against Bristol at Firhill on Friday 22 August."

Today also marks the confirmation of the Magners League fixtures for the first half of the 2008/09 season which sees the Warriors in domestic action on Friday night's at Firhill Arena at the popular time of 7:30pm.

In light of today's confirmation that the Warriors will continue to make Friday night "rugby night", Kellock added: 'the fans are always telling us that Friday night's work well for them and that certainly comes across to the players where we feel the atmosphere improved massively throughout the whole of last season. We"re all looking forward to starting where we left off back in May with a vibrant atmosphere in the stands and winning performances on the park."
