Supporters have rushed to take advantage of the opportunity to first foot Glasgow Warriors for free at the New Year’s Day derby clash with Edinburgh Rugby.

The club last week made 1,000 tickets available on a complimentary basis to fans who bought seats for the RBS 6 Nations clash between Scotland and France in February, and already this initial allocation has been virtually exhausted.

In response to the exceptional demand, the Warriors have decided to extend the offer until noon on Tuesday 13 December, giving supporters another six days to secure their spot for the deciding leg of the 1872 Cup derby double header.

Head coach Sean Lineen told www.glasgowwarriors.org: “It’s fantastic to hear that fans have been snapping up these tickets in their droves and will now be part of what is always one of the most memorable nights in the Scottish rugby calendar.

“The Edinburgh games are huge for everyone at Glasgow Warriors. We want to beat our local rivals, and we want to keep pushing up the RaboDirect PRO12 table. Having a big crowd at our backs can help us in that process, and it’s great to see that supporters are keen to get involved.”

For full details of how to claim a free 1872 Cup ticket for Firhill when purchasing a spot for Scotland v France, supporters should click HERE or call 0844 335 3933.

Warriors season ticket holders, whose season ticket book already gives them access to the Ne’erday game, have the chance to upgrade to an 1872 Cup Package, which includes a discounted Scotland v France ticket (i.e. normal price minus the cost of 1872 Cup ticket).

Season ticket holders have been emailed information by the Scottish Rugby Ticket Centre with instructions on how to claim a further, free 1872 Cup ticket.

Supporters who have already booked 1872 Cup or Scotland v France tickets have also been sent information on how to claim a further, free 1872 Cup ticket.

The Warriors have also put in place a series of money-can't-buy incentives for local clubs who purchase 1872 Cup tickets via their own websites, and are offering a joint Edinburgh/Leinster adult package, priced at just £25, which includes the Firhill derby and the Heineken Cup home game against European champions Leinster on the weekend of 13/14/15 Jan (precise date and kick-off time to be confirmed by ERC).
