Head coach Sean Lineen will unveil a new-look side when Glasgow Warriors kick-off their season 2011/12 campaign with a tasty friendly against Newcastle Falcons at Firhill tomorrow night (kick-off 7.30pm, under-18s go FREE). Four of the club’s summer signings, loose-head prop Gordon Reid, stand-off Scott Wight, centre Troy Nathan and wing Tommy Seymour, have been chosen in the starting XV, while a fifth, back-rower Rory Pitman, is in line to make an impact from the bench. The Firhill crowd will also have the chance to take a look at Nick Campbell, the lock who plays his club rugby for Glasgow Hawks and is part of the Scottish Rugby Elite Development programme. Supporters have the chance to celebrate the start of the new season without digging too deep into their holiday funds, with under-18s being admitted to Friday’s match absolutely free (provided there is at least one paying adult in their group), and adult and student/senior citizen tickets competitively priced at £10 and £5 respectively. Lineen today enthused about the return of live action to Firhill, telling www.glasgowwarriors.org: “There’s massive enthusiasm in the camp about getting back out there and giving the Glasgow crowd something to get excited about right from the start of the season. “In terms of passion and commitment, the support we receive at Firhill is right up there with the best in the RaboDirect PRO12, and our task as a team and a club is to give even more of the Glasgow public a reason to get involved and feel that the Warriors represent them. “The team and coaches are right behind the initiative to let kids in for free on Friday, and we’ll be going all out to give everyone who comes along a positive taste of what they can expect when the competitive games come around.” Lineen is particularly looking forward to seeing his new recruits in Warriors match action. He said: “All the guys we’ve brought in have shown up very well in pre-season in terms of the attitude and application they’ve had. “It’s good to be able to give them a run-out in match conditions now, just to let them get familiar with our patterns and how we play the game, and in that respect it’s good to also have guys who are steeped in Glasgow rugby in there too: players like Rob Dewey [who will captain the side], Colin Shaw, Ed Kalman and James Eddie. “Ayr were good enough to accommodate us for what was a great hit out on Tuesday night, so we’re not going into the Falcons match completely cold, and while there are bound to be bits of our game that are a bit rusty, it’s a chance for us to set out our stall for the season ahead and show what we’re all about.” Debutant Wight confirmed: “I know I speak for the other boys that will be making their first Glasgow appearance when I say that it’s a night we’re all massively looking forward to. “We’ve all worked hard to put ourselves in a position where we get to pull on the shirt, and it’s going to be a tremendously proud moment when it actually happens.” Two players who are part of the wider Scotland Rugby World Cup training squad, Ryan Grant and Rob Harley, will be among the Glasgow replacements for tomorrow’s match. Both will then return to the national squad to join the preparations for the EMC Test against Italy at Murrayfield next Saturday.
