Strathendrick Rugby Club presented cheques totalling £4600 to charities at its Juniors’ Open Day on Sunday 29th August. Broadcaster and former Scotland international, John Beattie and Gordon Ash from The Wooden Spoon Society received a cheque for £1000 on behalf of the rugby children’s charity from SRFC’s Mark Gibson. The seniors’ clay pigeon shoot at Edenmill in June raised funds for Strathendrick and The Wooden Spoon Society: next year the Club hopes to involve more rugby teams and raise even more money! John and Gordon were accompanied by Glasgow Warriors players Rob Dewey, Nick Campbell, Ed Kalman and Argentine international Frederico Aramburu - who chatted with the young players, signed autographs and enjoyed the Family BBQ! The Minis Charity Rugby Tournament in April this year attracted 650 young players from 13 clubs throughout the area. As well as a fabulous end of season sporting festival the Tournament raised sponsorship and donations and cheques for a magnificent £1,200 each were presented to representatives of the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice, Strathcarron Hospice and CHAS by SRFC President Nick Hawkins.
