The 6ft 5in, 18st 6lb lock, who qualifies for Scotland through his Glaswegian father, Paul, joins from English Premiership outfit, Saracens, on a two-month loan. Head coach Sean Lineen, said: "I'm delighted with the great support I've had from Chief Executive Kenny Baillie and Scottish Rugby to secure the services of such a quality individual. "He's a very mobile, modern-day lock and is incredibly hungry. You can see his ambition when you speak to him and I applaud his attitude. "Brendan Venter [Saracens director of rugby] was very accommodating - the situation works for both clubs. They're very ambitious and Tom [Ryder] needs game time while we get a quality lock, desperate to force his way back into regular rugby. "At present this is a loan arrangement to bolster our squad as we seek to match and surpass our achievements last season, which will ask a lot of an already young squad." A mainstay throughout England's international age-grades from under-16 up, Tom Ryder moved to Saracens from the youth set-up at Leicester Tigers in 2005 aged 20, and made his full debut against Wasps in the Anglo Welsh Cup before getting his first English Premiership start at Welford Road a few months later. Ryder has since been a regular in the Saracens matchday squad since breaking into the first team for the final six games of the 2005/06 campaign when impressive displays helped guide the club away from the threat of relegation. After spending the opening three months of the 2008/09 season playing for Taranaki in the Air New Zealand Cup, Tom Ryder returned to the club to force his way back into the first team squad and has been a regular ever since, turning out for the Sarries on total of 95 occasions. Speaking after his first training session at the Scotstoun Sports Campus, Tom Ryder said: "Glasgow had a great season last year so I'm delighted to get the opportunity to be part of a fantastic squad and train in world-class facilities. "I pride myself on being a physical and ball-carrying lock and am looking forward to bringing my experience to Glasgow and helping them match and better their successes last season."
