WARRIORS HOPE TAXI WILL BE A VEHICLE FOR SUCCESS Glasgow Warriors prop Jon Welsh today outlined his desire to drive ahead the progress he made last year following the injury which cut short his first full season as a first team regular. Welsh, who today helped unveil the Warriors' new branded taxi which will become a familiar sight around Glasgow all season long, said: "It was very disappointing. I put in a lot of hard work over the season and to be injured just at the end was really frustrating. "I was quite upset by the whole thing, but I've tried to focus on the positives and use it as a time to get stronger and fitter. So that's what I've been doing - trying to rebuild and it seems to be going well so far." When asked if the new taxi - which has been transformed from a black cab into vehicle emblazoned with the some of the city's finest rugby talent - will help in the club's efforts to promote itself in and around the city of Glasgow, the Scotland 'A' internationalist and former electrician continued: "Hopefully! It's good to help Glasgow Warriors grow, advertise and build support for the team."
The Warriors' pre-season preparations come to a head over the next two weeks as they welcome English Premiership side Sale Sharks to Firhill on Friday night (20 August, kick-off 7.30pm) - a game which season ticket holders are entitled to three free tickets. They will then travel to Adams Park in London to play Wasps on Saturday 28 August (kick-off 3pm).
Looking forward to both occasions, Welsh said: "They are two big Premiership teams that we are playing against in pre-season friendlies so it's a great opportunity for us, the new signings and even the fans to come along and support us. "We really appreciate all the support we get when the fans come because the bigger the crowd the better for us. "It'll be good for us to see where we are this season [in terms of performance] and it'll be good for the fans to see where we are as well." On his targets for the new campaign, Welsh concluded: "Obviously you've got to concentrate on your club team and your club games first and hopefully the caps will come with it so the main priority is Glasgow and that's who I'm looking to get back playing for."
