Glasgow Warriors have been handed three home fixtures in the opening four weeks of the 2010/11 Magners League following the announcement by Celtic Rugby of the weekends and order of opposition for the new domestic season. The Warriors will start and finish the regular season against former European champions, Leinster, the first game being at Firhill on the weekend of 3/4/5 September. Warriors assistant coach, Shade Munro, today welcomed the announcement of the outline fixture calendar and described the curtain-raiser as one which will be of equal appeal to both players and supporters alike. "I think it will be a massive occasion," said the former Scotland international. "They were European champions last year and it's great that we've got them first-up at home. "It's a great one for the fans to come and see. It's a massive game for us and it should start the season off with a bang."
BELONG TO GLASGOW IN 2010/11 The 2010/11 Glasgow Warriors season ticket has more benefits than ever before as two Italian teams enter the Magners League for the first time PLUS all the home Heineken Cup action at Firhill. - Under 18 season tickets have been frozen at £30 This season also sees the introduction of the new 'Band of Warriors' season ticket - an adult and child for just £200. With three of Glasgow's first four fixtures at home, Munro also believes that it will help generate the momentum required for a successful campaign whilst the quality of opposition with help continue to attract an increasing number of supporters to Firhill. He continued: "You certainly want to get some home games early in the season and they are really tasty fixtures for the fans as well as for the players. It's great that we have three home games out of four to start off with. "I think it's massively enticing for the fans, especially when you see the teams we are playing at home. Certainly Leinster and Munster are the two that stick out there. "For us, as a squad, it's always good to play at home. You do get an advantage when you play at home, and to have three games at Firhill in the first four games, I would see as an advantage to us." The game that separates the opening home clashes is a journey to Rodney Parade where the Warriors will play familiar foes, Newport Gwent Dragons, who they will face in Europe once again. "Because we've had them in the Heineken Cup, we've played the Dragons four times for the last few seasons when it's been two games all. It's a big challenge for us to win all four this year." Two Italian teams enter the Magners League for the first time this year, Aironi Rugby and Benetton Treviso, and the Warriors will play the former at Firhill on the weekend of 5/6/7 November. Looking forward to a fresh challenge, Munro said: "We look forward to that. It's going to strengthen the Magners League. It'll be interesting to see how they perform but we can't take them lightly that is for sure." The traditional 1872 Cup weekend has also been confirmed during the festive period and Glasgow will host their rivals first. "Playing Edinburgh in back-to-back fixtures has turned out to be massive with regard to our season. "For us, playing at home first is excellent and we really look forward to that part of the season."
