Henry Benjamin Pyrgos joined Glasgow Warriors in summer 2010 after taking leave from a chemistry degree at Loughborough University to pursue his rugby ambitions. Blessed with strong basic skills and a real desire to learn, Pyrgos looks set to have a meaningful presence in the Warriors squad for some time to come. His form in his debut campaign saw him win selection for the Scotland A team, who went through season 2010/11 undefeated. During his age-grade international career, Henry had a winning start in Scotland colours in the 18-17 victory against Wales in the Six Nations Under-20 Championship match at McDiarmid Park, Perth, in February 2009. He went on to play in all 10 of Scotland’s under-20 internationals that year. He was also starting scrum half in the four other Six Nations matches, scoring a try in the 35-20 win against the Irish at McDiarmid Park, and he had four starts and a replacement appearances in the IRB Junior World Championship in Japan in June that year. Previously, Henry had played for Scottish Exiles at under-18, under-19, and under-20 levels and Northampton Saints’ under-18 and under-19 teams. During a visit to New Zealand he was included in the Wanganui province’s youth squad. Outwith rugby, he has played for West of England at hockey (under-15) and Dorset at cricket (under-17). His father played rugby for Harlequins and Loughborough Students, and his mother represented England at under-21 hockey. Henry is a former pupil of Bryanston School in Dorset.
