RESPONSE, sponsor of Glasgow Warriors, is sending 12 children from Glasgow's newest rugby club, Glasgow East RFC, to attend the Warriors' Summer Camp as part of its ongoing commitment to the local community.Image

The lucky boys, aged between eight and 11, were selected during the Glasgow East RFC's summer festival at Barrachnie Park last week where the team competed against six other local rugby clubs in a mini league. The festival provided children with an opportunity to find out more about rugby and put their skills to the test.

Commenting on the event, Glasgow East RFC Chairman, Martin Thomson said: "We hope to attract lots of families to participate in the club and the added bonus is that it's free membership and kit for the kids too. Word is spreading through our events that rugby is not an elitist game and the festival was a great chance for children to try rugby and decide whether they like it as a sport.

"The kids were so excited when we told them they could attend the Warriors Summer Camp and we are extremely grateful to RESPONSE for sponsoring their places."

The 12 boys selected will get the opportunity to develop their game during the camp, which runs from 9-11 August. They will also meet the entire Warriors team including Scotland captain Alastair Kellock.

Glasgow based contact management centre, RESPONSE recently renewed its sponsorship with the Warriors for a further two years and saw the opportunity to send Glasgow East RFC kids to the camp as a way to further engage with the local community.

RESPONSE managing director, Brian Bannatyne, said: "As part of our new vision we have been looking for ways in which we can become more involved with our local community. This is part of the reason we continued our sponsorship with the Warriors and sending 12 kids to attend this year's summer camp is another perfect opportunity for us to continue our efforts in this area.

"I hope the boys enjoy their time at Pollok Park and I'm sure meeting the Warriors will be one of the highlights of their summer."

Glasgow Warriors chief executive, Kenny Baillie, added: "I'd like to thank our principal club sponsor RESPONSE for giving 12 youngsters from Glasgow East RFC the opportunity to attend the Warriors summer camp and meet all the players.

"It's vital for development of rugby at a grass roots level in the city of Glasgow that the Warriors and our partners do everything we can to grow the game and this is a good example of what can be achieved.

"I also offer my warmest congratulations to all the members and volunteers of Glasgow East RFC for organising and running a very successful rugby festival on June 12.

"To see nearly 200 youngsters and 1,000 spectators attend is a great achievement for all concerned. I'm sure the children who attend will have a great time and meeting players such as Chris Cusiter and Alastair Kellock will be a moment to remember."
