BIG AL TO LEAD SCOTLAND PDF Print
Thursday, 10 June 2010

Glasgow Warriors captain Alastair Kellock celebrates his 29th birthday on Saturday. But, in time-honoured fashion and repeating a pattern experienced on previous Scotland tours, he has been given an early gift by the national team management – after he was named Scotland captain for the first time for Saturday’s first Test match against the Pumas in Tucuman.

Kellock is one of eight Warriors in the starting line-up and on being named captain by head coach Andy Robinson he becomes the 110th leader of the national team in Scottish Rugby’s proud history.  For the full story on the selection please log on to www.scotlandrugbyteam.org

Al Kellock to lead Scotland from the outset for the first time

Kellock, a product of Allan Glen’s, has had a smile as long as the River Plate, since the news was announced here in Argentina.

Two years ago he saw the tour to this corner of South America revive a Test career that had stalled through injury.  Four years ago in South Africa he won the nod ahead of his fellow lock Scott Murray to start a Test match against the Springboks.

But Saturday, as he wins his 26th cap for Scotland, could top the lot, especially if he can lead his country to victory. Here his reaction to his selection in this interview for www.glasgowwarriors.org
