Record breaking Dan Parks, who is the top points scorer in Magners League history and the first player to reach 1,000 league points, this evening thrust Glasgow back into the top-four play-off zone with a record four drop goals in a single Magners League game.

A further two penalties and a conversion, plus a try from Graeme Morrison ensured the Warriors won their second of three consecutive home matches in an Action Packed April.

After the game, Glasgow Warriors head coach, Sean Lineen, said: “I was pretty honest at half-time. Ulster tore into is the first-half and made it really difficult for us.

“But we really switched it on the second-half and lifted our game; we certainly went through all the emotions but delighted with our character. We showed we have the will to win.”

In a relatively quiet first-half, Glasgow got off to a bad start when Ulster scored an unconverted try after just two minutes, however a Parks penalty meant they were right in it at the break.Image

It was then, in an extraordinary second-half, which Parks slotted his record-breaking drop goals and a penalty, before converting a Graeme Morrison try, to win the match despite a late converted try from the visitors to ensure a nervy end to the tie.

Busy scrum-half Paul Marshall came through a ruck in his own half to boot the ball into Glasgow territory, the pacy nine was first to the ball to kick it on once more before winning the final race to touch down.

Stand-off Ian Humphreys could not add the extras from out wide.

Glasgow soon put the disappointment of the early score behind them when outside-centre Max Evans broke free out wide and skipped over several tackles on his way to the Ulster 22 before being brought down.

The ball was then spun wide before the visitors were penalised in front of the posts. Parks made no mistake with resulting penalty to put the sides in just two points apart at the break.

HALF TIME SCORE: GLASGOW 3-5 ULSTER

A much improved Glasgow came out in the second-half and repeated, composed phase-play saw them work the ball deep into the Ulster 22.

However, after crashing into a well marshalled Ulster defence, Glasgow steadied their platform and, with the half just four minutes old, sent the ball to Parks for his first drop-goal of the evening to put Glasgow in the lead for the first time in the match.

Unfortunately for the hosts the lead was short lived as, five minutes later, Humphreys replied with two penalties in quick succession to take and extend the lead.

Warriors head coach Sean Lineen then made three personnel changes, bringing on Ed Kalman, Chris Cusiter and Dougie Hall for Moray Low, Mark McMillan, Fergus Thomson.

The introduction of the notoriously industrious Cusiter made an impact across the field as Glasgow again battled their way into the Ulster half, paving the way for another Parks penalty and a record-equally second drop-goal, to once again recapture the lead.

As the second-half rolled on Glasgow gathered steam, particularly through robust running from number 8 Johnnie Beattie and inside-centre Graeme Morrison, to take an increasingly strong grasp on the match, before Morrison crossed for a fine solo try.

The formidable centre collected the ball with two support players at his disposal however pulling the defence across with his drifting running he cut back inside and powered through any attempts at bringing him down.

Parks then converted the try to, crucially, put Glasgow in the lead by more than converted score with less than 20 minutes remaining.

Parks then slotted two drop goals in the space of three minutes to take the record and secure the win though a score from Jamie Smith (converted from Humphreys) to put them within a score though it proved too little for the visitors.
