Glasgow Warriors head coach, Sean Lineen, today spoke of his delight at retaining the services of Johnnie Beattie as the back-row forward signed a new two year contract with the club.

Beattie, who won his first international cap back in 2006, will line-up for his country once again in Saturday's Calcutta Cup match against England at Murrayfield.

Lineen said of the 24-year-old: "Johnnie is a quality player. I've been working with him for a few years now and you can see the talent he's got. Image

"He has the X-Factor - especially on the ball, in the way he can play and get over the gain line - he just makes it look so easy.

"At this stage of where we are as a team, it's good that we've still got two of the Killer B's. It also shows a signal of intent from him that he wants to win something with Glasgow."

Beattie, who joined the Warriors in 2004, added: "I think the direction that the club has been headed towards the past few years is really taking a head on course now.

"I'm really happy with the way things are going and I just want to continue my development and keep pushing my way to start for Glasgow."

The Glasgow Academy former pupil now believes that the positive strides made by the coaches and the players during his time with the Warriors can contribute to continued success as the team pursues a place in the inaugural Magners League play-offs.

"I think we have a group of players now that are on the cusp of something," he continued. "That group of talent is coming through but it's also down to the hard work that's gone in behind the scenes by Sean and the coaches but also the players upping the ante and working a lot harder themselves.

"Although we're only half way through the season, things are looking positive and hopefully it will continue."
