McCOIST LOOKS FORWARD TO SIX NATIONS START
Glasgow Warriors and Rangers FC are hoping that they can continue to dominate their respective leagues in a bid to ensure success for both rugby and football in the city. This week, Glasgow Warriors captain Alastair Kellock met one of his childhood sporting heroes, and fellow Alastair, Rangers assistant manager Ally McCoist at Murray Park. As a life-long Rangers fan, the 6ft 8in lock hopes to not only make an impact in the forthcoming RBS 6 Nations - which starts against France at Murrayfield on Sunday 7 February - but to bag a treble with domestic success for both the Warriors and his beloved 'Gers. During the brief encounter, McCoist also revealed his passion for both sports and wished Scotland and the Warriors the very best for the forthcoming games. Speaking exclusively to glasgowwarriors.org, McCoist said: "I must admit I do enjoy the rugby," said McCoist, "in fact, I've been to Murrayfield on numerous occasions and a couple of away trips down to Cardiff. "They're certainly great games and I've some great memories through at Murrayfield. When I was a boy, I also used to go and watch Heriot's at Goldenacre because my Aunt and Uncle stayed in Edinburgh, so I must admit I enjoy my rugby." On the chances of Rangers and his local rugby team achieving league success, McCoist added: "If both of us could stay at the top of the league until the end of the season I think that'd be brilliant. "Obviously we've got a good connection with the Glasgow boys who've occasionally come in and trained here [at Murray Park]. They're a good set of lads and I know Sean Lineen pretty well so it's fantastic to see them doing well at the top of the Magners League and obviously, in an ideal situation, if both of us can stay there, then we'll be there at the end of the season." Anticipating an exciting RBS 6 Nations campaign for the Scotland team, McCoist concluded: "From my totally unqualified standing point and opinion, I think the boys have looked a lot better in some of the previous Tests and I hope the Six Nations can go really well for them this year. "Obviously with the great backing they'll have at Murrayfield everybody will be really hopeful." You can read a full interview with Warriors captain Alastair Kellock in the next week's issue of Rangers News which is available from Wednesday 3 February. A further video interview will be available via Rangers TV soon. |
