Glasgow Warriors concluded their Heineken Cup campaign with a loss to Biarritz at the Parc des Sports Aguilera this afternoon.

Despite being the better of two very physical sides in the opening 60 minutes, the final 20 saw the Warriors’ tight performance unravel.

After the game, head coach Sean Lineen said: “We wanted to win this one and you could see that by the team we put out.

“Biarritz are a very unforgiving team and our sheer lack of discipline is something that we’re going to have to take a look at.”

Biarritz stand-off Valentin Courrent was the first to put points on the board with a third minute penalty.

However, Glasgow responded well and scored just before the ten minute mark. Flanker John Barclay smashed his way up-field and created both the momentum and platform from which to attack. Chris Cusiter chose to switch the direction of play and chipped through for Thom Evans. Evans was first to the ball, scooped it from the floor and touched down in the right hand corner. Dan Parks converted.

Parks then continued to keep the Warriors in front with two penalties before Biarritz rallied and brought the sides within just two points at the break.

Courrent cancelled out Parks’ penalties and Eduard Coetzee was the man with the ball underneath a pile of bodies to claim their first of four tries.

Half-time score: Biarritz 11, Glasgow 13

Three minutes into the second half, Biarritz tried to pin Glasgow back inside their own 22 with a high ball. What came of it, however, was a contender for try of the season.

Fullback Bernardo Stortoni called the mark and ignited an attack. The Argentine offloaded to Max Evans then returned the ball to the fullback.

Rob Dewey was next to intervene before Cusiter finally found the space to eventually reach the whitewash. Parks converted.

Four attempts at goal ensued for Courrent and he hit the target with three of them before American Takudzwa Ngwenya scored a blistering solo try.

The USA 7s international scorched up the right wing, trampling over Hefin O’Hare before diving in the corner, his right arm up in celebration. Courrent converted.

From that point onward, Biarritz punished Glasgow and battered them back toward their own line. Following a massive effort from the pack, the referee had seen enough and awarded a penalty try to the hosts. Courrent converted.

Llikena Bolakoro then sealed the coveted bonus point, which will likely hand Biarritz home advantage in the quarter-finals. Courent converted and picked up the man of the match award for his efforts.
