Glasgow Warriors’ new Chief Executive, Kenny Baillie, started his new role today (Monday 14 December) and spoke of how he joins a Club at such an exciting time.

Following on from Friday evening’s 33-11 Heineken Cup win against Gloucester, the Warriors, who are currently top of the Magners League, continue to attract more people to Firhill with attendances rising steadily year-on-year.

As he started his new role this morning, he said: “I’m delighted to be taking up office with the Warriors at a time when the club is enjoying so much success on the field.

“I’m very much looking forward to working with Sean Lineen and the squad to help them build upon this momentum. I’m also excited about the challenges off the field such as overseeing the establishment of our new training base at Scotstoun which is a wonderful opportunity, not just for the Warriors, but the entire rugby community in the west of Scotland.

“It’s a fantastic time to become involved, not only with such an eagerly anticipated 1872 Cup derby against Edinburgh as my first home game in charge, but with the opportunity to work with the many thriving clubs in the greater Glasgow rugby community.”

Scottish Rugby Chief Executive, Gordon McKie added: “It’s great to see Kenny join us at such an exciting time for Glasgow Warriors and Scottish Rugby. With his detailed knowledge of the Glasgow rugby and business communities, I’m hopeful that he’ll help us to promote the Warriors to new audiences, and thus help us to achieve increased off field successes.

“I especially want to thank Colin Thomson, who has made a major contribution to the Warriors as interim Chief Executive, along with the committed Warriors staff and players for all their hard work over the past few months which has enabled Kenny to join a club which is challenging for honours, and provides a significant number of players to the Scotland national team’’.

Glasgow’s next home game is the eagerly anticipated 1872 Cup derby against Edinburgh on Sunday 27 December (kick-off 3.05pm). This game is live on STV.
