Following their heroics in Belfast at the weekend, Magners League table-toppers Glasgow Warriors dropped into Greaves Sports on Gordon Street this morning as tickets for their home games went on sale via Scottish Rugby’s official retail partner.

The new initiative enables Warriors fans to buy their AnyGame vouchers and 1872 Cup derby tickets – priced at £15 for adults, £10 for students and senior citizens with tickets for under 18s just £5 - in Glasgow’s city centre.

Both pre-purchase briefs mean that adult supporters can save money by buying in advance (adult tickets are £20 on match-days).

AnyGame vouchers can be used for any home Glasgow Warriors Magners League or Heineken Cup pool match for season 2009/10 (except the 1872 Cup derby).

Warriors’ interim chief executive, Colin Thomson, said: “Firhill has a fantastic atmosphere on Warriors match-nights so it’s great news that there is now another way for fans to buy their tickets early and save money.

“Supporters now have the convenience of being able to buy tickets online, over the phone or through two of the city’s Greaves Sports stores (on Gordon Street and Sauchiehall Street) whilst out doing their Christmas shopping.

“I hope that this latest initiative will encourage more people to get behind the Warriors this Friday night when we welcome Gloucester in the Heineken Cup.

“We are also anticipating a bumper crowd on Sunday 27 December for our second home game of a December to remember - the first of the two back-to-back 1872 Cup derbies against Edinburgh.”

Meanwhile, following home and away encounters with Gloucester (the first of which is at Firhill on Friday 11 December, kick-off 7:30pm) Scotland’s two pro-teams go head-to-head.

Glasgow’s victory in Belfast on Friday night coupled with Edinburgh’s close win over the Scarlets, means that the 1872 Cup derby is now a top-of-the-table clash.

Warriors flanker Richie Vernon, who also won his first international cap during the Bank of Scotland Corporate Autumn Tests, said: “The Gloucester and Edinburgh games are two massive matches. Everyone is excited about the 1872 Cup so hopefully we’ll be going into it having played well twice against Gloucester. Going into these games whilst also being top of the league – there’s not much more you could want.”

Sandy Greaves, managing director of Greaves Sports, said: “Having tickets available at our city centre stores means it’s so much easier for fans to buy their tickets in advance.

“The new AnyGame voucher is a great deal and it offers people a degree of flexibility which will hopefully add to the gate.

“We’re delighted to be working with Scottish Rugby and Glasgow Warriors on this innovative approach to ticketing.”

Warriors fans are reminded that tickets are still available via www.glasgowwarriors.org and the ticket hotline 0844 800 3490.
