Dan Parks put in a commanding display to help record a vital win for the Warriors.

Glasgow Warriors defeated Ulster at a wet and windy Ravenhill this evening and now, at least for the time being, sit atop the Magners League table.

The Warriors are one place above 1872 Cup rivals Edinburgh who defeated Scarlets by a single point (17-16) earlier this evening.

Leinster, who now sit in third spot, play the Dragons on Sunday at Rodney Parade whilst Munster, who are currently fifth (below Ulster) face the Ospreys at Liberty Stadium tomorrow.

A commanding display from Dan Parks saw the stand-off notch up a personal tally of 20 points whilst winger Thom Evans crossed for his fourth try of the season to seal the victory.

Glasgow weathered a shaky first half performance as two Parks penalties were countered by his opposite number Ian Huphreys.

However, in the 30th minute, Jon Welsh was sent to the sin bin after continuing to aggravate referee James Jones with his front row play.

Thom Evans scored Glasgow's try.

Jones sent Welsh to the bin despite Ulster hooker Andy Kyriacou popping out of the front row as a result of the immense pressure enforced by the Glasgow front-row.

Ulster took advantage of the extra man up front and battered their way over the line, prop Tom Court touching down amidst a pile of bodies. Humphreys converted.

Half-time score: Ulster 13, Warriors 6

Glasgow regrouped at half-time and came out a more cohesive and controlled unit.

As they united against Ulster, Parks continued to lead from the front, slotting four penalties to hand Glasgow a healthy lead as the game entered the final 30 minutes.

In the 66th minute, Parks sent a kick into the Ulster 22 where the Warriors collected and set up their final assault.

Replacement scrum-half Chris Cusiter smartly changed the direction of play, spotting Thom Evans out wide, and released the lightning-fast winger who reached the try-line for the score.

Parks converted to extend his lead as the highest point’s scorer in Magners League history and now sits just five points away from a landmark 1,000th Magners League point.

The Warriors now enter Heineken Cup action at home to Gloucester (Friday 11 December, kick-off 7:30pm) before the return leg at Kingsholm (Sunday 20 December, kick-off 12:45pm).

Glasgow’s next home game in the Magners League is the first leg of the 1872 Cup derby against Edinburgh at Firhill on Sunday 27 December. Kick-off is at 3:05pm.
