The Magners League opener will complete a home hat-trick for the Warriors who will face London Wasps in their final pre-season friendly a week before on Friday 28 August (kick-off 7.30pm).

Tickets for Glasgow Warriors v London Wasps are £15 if purchased in advance and £20 on the day. Admission is free for season ticket holders who can bring a friend free of charge.

Glasgow Warriors Head Coach, Sean Lineen, said: “It’s fantastic. Playing the reigning champions at Firhill really focuses the mind. We lost against them last season at home with a fairly average performance so this is an opportunity for us to be totally and utterly focussed.

“There’s nothing better than having the champions coming to your home patch.

“Firhill can be an intimidating pitch. We were unbeaten there for a year when I first came on board and we want to make sure we leave no stone unturned in making Firhill our fortress.”

The 2009 / 2010 season will see the introduction of end of season playoffs between the league’s top four – a prospect which Lineen in relishing.

“Every team is going to be aiming for the playoffs and we are focussed on getting to that stage.

“As a group we know what we have to do, the players are getting more responsibility in terms of how they want to play the game but, in saying that, professional sport is all about winning and we need to make sure that we provide the environment so that the players can go out there and enjoy their rugby and make sure that everyone is driving towards the same goal.

“We’re going to be working a lot harder, we’re going to be working a lot smarter and we’re going to be working for each other. The camaraderie’s always been good in Glasgow but I think the gloves are off to a certain extent now.

“All in all we’re in good shape and just can’t wait for it to start.”
