Glasgow Warriors back-rower Calum Forrester (on the right of the above picture) arrived back from his debut tour with the Scotland ‘A’ team at the IRB Nations Cup yesterday as a champion and it has fuelled his appetite for success with The Biggest Team in Glasgow next season.

The tour saw Scotland ‘A’ post three wins from three against Russia, Uruguay and France ‘A’ to lift the trophy in the Romanian capital, Bucharest.

Now back home in Glasgow’s south side, Forrester today reflected on a job well done.

“I was delighted with the tour. It was a great couple of weeks and to win against France in the final was amazing.

I really enjoyed playing in the back row. I’ve played alongside most of the players that were on the tour, such as Kelly Brown and Roddy Grant, through being with Glasgow, Scotland 7s or Scotland U20s.”

Although he was familiar with many on the tour, a way of getting to know those he hadn’t played alongside before was sorted when the team manager selected who was sharing rooms with whom.

“I was rooming with [Edinburgh prop] Geoff Cross for part of the tour. Geoff likes a story and loves a question!

“One thing we had on the tour was a blank poster in the team room called “Ask Geoff” where the players write up any question for Geoff to answer. He would then go back to our room and research the questions and answer them on the bus to training. It was quite amusing.”

Forrester missed the opening game of the tour through injury, but although he had to watch from the sidelines, he witnessed a player in action who he feels will bring a whole new edge to the Warriors’ squad next season – Chris Cusiter.

“I can’t wait to play alongside Cus next season, he’s just a class act and has an amazing touch with the ball. He also filled the captain’s role very well.”

Looking back on the successful campaign, the 22-year-old is pleased to have made such an impact in front on new Scotland head coach Andy Robinson.

“It was great to be coached by the new Scotland national coach and to put myself in the frame for the future.

“I think we all learned a few things from Andy and I hope we can all bring something extra back to Glasgow and push on from there.”

While many of the Warriors squad were on international duty or on a well earned break after a gruelling season, those still in Glasgow continued to spread the word at events in and around the city.
