New Glasgow Warriors signing Chris Cusiter celebrated his 27th birthday today (Saturday) after helping Scotland ‘A’ to a 49-7 triumph over Russia on Friday and then revealed his ideal present would be to captain the team to further IRB Nations Cup success in Bucharest.

The talented scrum-half, set to join Glasgow Warriors next month, played a pivotal role in an entertaining performance with Scotland ‘A’ running in an exhilarating eight tries.

Now Cusiter wants the team carry that momentum into the next match against Uruguay (Tuesday 16 June, kick off 4pm local time) at the Stadionul National Arcul de Triumf to make his birthday wish come true.

Cusiter said: “I think we put down a marker in terms of performance in the first game.

“I was really proud of the way the boys applied themselves. That was the first time that a lot of us had played together, but I don’t think that really showed.

“We realise there is still plenty of room for improvement and that there is still a lot to work on at the training ground, but we are heading into the Uruguay game with confidence.”

Meanwhile, Kelly Brown received treatment for a cut just above his eye during the Russia match requiring three stitches.

But the Glasgow Warriors back row forward is expected to be made available for selection for the match against the South Americans.

Other news from the treatment room is that Calum Forrester is continuing to receive treatment for an ankle injury he received in training before the Russia match.

Back rowers Alan MacDonald (dead leg) and Richie Vernon (abdominal strain) are also receiving treatment while lock Craig Hamilton also picked up a knock above his knee.

Team doctor, Dr Alastair Nicol said: “Other than a few minor injuries, the squad are in good shape and are coping well with the hotter climate in Bucharest.”
