Glasgow Warriors have signed Scottish qualified centre Peter Murchie on a two year deal.

Murchie will arrive in Glasgow in the coming weeks to the delight of his Ayrshire born father, Finlay, who has always been eager to see him ply his trade in Scotland.

“My dad used to play for Ardrossan and is a very passionate Scotsman.” said the 23-year-old. “He’s always been keen to get me back north of the border so this move realises an ambition for the two of us.”

On his new deal with The Biggest Team in Glasgow, Murchie added: “Moving to Glasgow is a good way to further my career because it’s another step up.

“I came up for a day and spoke to Sean, the rest of the coaches and the players. Sean is very up front and I like that.”

The former Bath player admitted he has been keeping an eye on the Warriors ever since he was approached by the club and is excited by the success of many of the young Scottish players.

“I’ve managed to see a few games on television towards the end of the season and they’ve scored some great tries.

“You only have to look at the number of young Scottish players at the Warriors who are all playing international rugby. All the young guys have done very well under Sean’s stewardship.”

Warriors head coach, Sean Lineen, said: “I’m excited by the find of Peter Murchie. He has the raw material that we can shape into a special player. He will also add some real depth to our exciting back-line.”

Meanwhile, Glasgow Warriors have re-signed prop Ed Kalman on a two-year-deal.

Lineen said: “I’m excited by Ed’s potential. He has to work hard to progress but I know he has the talent to go a long way.

“There is a steely edge to Ed’s game which I like.”
