Rugby in Glasgow from the Warriors to the national leagues was recognised at the Scottish Rugby Awards Dinner at Murrayfield tonight, (Wednesday 20 May).

Warriors star Max Evans was crowned Magners League Player of the Season whilst his team mates Kelly Brown and Richie Gray picked up awards for the Greaves Sports Try of the Season and the Martin Currie Scotland U20 Player of the Season, respectively.

Max and his Glasgow team’s contribution to Scottish Rugby were blissfully apparent as dinner guests watched a sublime Glasgow counter-attack on the big screens.

The Try of the Season came during Glasgow’s away victory over Toulouse in the Heineken Cup Pool Match. Max expertly chipped ahead for his brother Thom Evans and with some interplay with John Barclay, Brown was sent over the line.

The Awards were not only a celebration of professional rugby as they recognised success across all levels.

Kenny Murray, the brains behind the success of Scottish Hydro Electric Premier Division One Champions Ayr, received the Scottish Hydro Electric Coach of the Season Award.

Within only a season at Ayr, Kenny has steered the club to their first Premier Division One title in 112 years. His influence on paper is wholly apparent with the club conceding 168 points less than the previous season en route to a commanding 22 point winning margin in club rugby’s top tier.

In the lower leagues, Russell McKeown of Allan Glen’s Rugby Club was named Scottish Hydro Electric National Division Three Player of the Season. The formidable19 year old speedster notched up 28 tries against some of the top sides in his league.
