Scotland under-20 coach Eamon John wants his young team to use the experience of the side’s historic home victory over Wales to drive them to victory against Italy tomorrow at Dens Park (Friday 27 February, kick-off 7.30pm). John has made just one change to the side that played France with Stirling County’s Steven Wilson coming in at inside-centre as a straight replacement for the injured Robbie Johnston (Leeds University and Leeds Carnegie) Despite going down 30-3 to France in Chalon sur Saone, John believes the combination of the Wales win and a vocal home support can inspire the team towards a second win in the 6 Nations. He said: “They know how to perform properly and they know how to win at home and hopefully that experience will help drive the team forward. “We have to please the home crowd, we need to play in a way that engages the crowd so that they get behind us – and that’s exactly what we are going to try to do. “I think it will be a very tough and physical confrontation. We need composure and accuracy and have to make sure we play quickly behind the scrum. “The quality of under-foot conditions at Dens Park will suit our game well. It’s a fast pitch and one which should help the way we like to play the game.” Scotland under-20 team to face Italy at Dens Park, Dundee on Friday 27 February (kick-off 7.30pm) 15 Peter Horne* (West of Scotland) 14 Paul Loudon (Durham University and Edinburgh Academicals) CAPTAIN 10 Andrew White+ (Glasgow Hawks) 1 Gavin Cameron+ (Stirling County) Substitutes * = Member of Scottish Rugby's Contracted National Academy |
