Glasgow Warriors finally put their bogey team to bed this afternoon in their final Heineken Cup match of the season.

Speaking after the game, head coach Sean Lineen, said: “The Dragons are a team that don’t want to play rugby; they just feed off our mistakes.

“We got the win so that’s brilliant and I’m really pleased for the players who showed a lot of belief. The victory was important because this is Europe and I think we’ve contributed a lot to the tournament this season.”

The opening 20 minutes of the game saw scrum-half Colin Gregor help Glasgow take the lead, slotting two penalties out of three with no response from Dragons’ stand-off James Arlidge who sent both of his attempts wide of the posts.

The Dragons continued to search for an answer, and pushed for the opening try of the game which tested Glasgow’s defence. Centre Ashley Smith collected a chip over the top and crashed over the line, only to be held up by Max Evans.

The first try of the game eventually came the Dragons’ way just eight minutes from half time, courtesy of captain, Tom Willis. Arlidge converted to put the visitors in front for the first time in the match.

Four minutes later, Gregor sliced a penalty opportunity to give the Dragons a single point advantage at the half-time interval.

The Warriors came out positively in the second half, regaining the lead with a try from stand-off Ruaridh Jackson. The youngster took advantage of the Dragons’ weakened defence on the blindside to touch down. Gregor added the extras to reinstate Glasgow’s six point advantage.

The Dragons were only able to respond through a penalty 10 minutes from time, scored by Shaun Connor, leaving the Warriors free to claim third spot in their Heineken Cup pool.
