Last weekend saw Glasgow Warriors record one of the greatest victories in the club’s history with an enthralling 33-26 win over Toulouse. It was a victory for every member of the Warriors team but especially for Graeme Morrison, as the centre marked the occasion with a try and this week earned himself a call-up to the Scotland squad. “We really had to put in a performance,” he said, “because if we didn’t, we could’ve got a bit of a hiding. But we got just about everything right on the day. “My try wasn’t the prettiest but they all count. I can’t really take any personal plaudits because the whole team played so well.” Following some impressive performances on Scotland’s summer tour to Argentina, Morrison was ruled out of Scotland’s Autumn Internationals due to knee ligament damage suffered during Glasgow’s 15-12 win over Leinster in October. However, his return to form for the Warriors was epitomised this week when he won a call-up to the national team training squad ahead of the RBS 6 Nations. “My target was always to get back for the Six Nations. Now I just need to prove my worth to the selectors. “Initially, the hardest thing for me was to slot back into the Glasgow team. In the few months I was out we started to play some exciting and adventurous rugby so it was just a case of taking my chances when they came. “All I can do now is continue to put in good performances for Glasgow and train well.” The weekend’s result has buoyed all in the Glasgow camp and Morrison hopes results like that can prove a springboard for others as it has for him. “Such a significant win at the weekend does everyone in the Glasgow squad a favour in terms of national selection,” he concluded. |
