KELLOCK COMMENTS AT HALF-WAY STAGE PDF Print

We’ve now reached the half-way point in the season and we can approach the remainder of 2009 with great optimism.

Glasgow are just four points off the top of the Magners League and have seen a record crowd at Firhill for the second time since moving there at the beginning of last season with an attendance of 6,665 for the Edinburgh game on 2 January.

Although some results haven’t gone our way so far in this campaign, we still find ourselves in a great position.

However, we must now find something that all teams strive for - some real consistency – if we are to be fighting it out amongst the top teams come the middle of May.

We are all disappointed not to have gone as far in the Heineken Cup as we would have liked, however, our Heineken Cup campaign has also given supporters the chance to see some of our emerging talent such as Ruaridh Jackson who had a fantastic debut at stand-off down in Bath showing he can perform on the big stage.

Glasgow also now hold two record breaking players in Dan Parks and Thom Evans.

Dan is the top points’ scorer in Magners League history and Thom currently holds the crown of top try scorer in the league this season.

Although some individuals are in a position to achieve these accolades, we have a very talented squad here at Glasgow and one that can only get stronger as we compete among the top teams in the Magners League.

More and more of the Glasgow boys are putting their hands up for international selection – be it for Scotland, Samoa, Canada or Argentina – and that’s testament to the winning culture we’re trying to develop and the great coaching and support team we have here.

As we look back on the first half of the season, I also want to thank you, the fans, who have given us fantastic support at Firhill and the many grounds we’ve visited all year. Your backing is very much appreciated.

Our crowds are on the increase once again and the response we get from the stands at Firhill is the main talking point at our recovery sessions the following morning.

As it stands, we’ve all got a fantastic opportunity in front of us, and the players know how much it means to the supporters. So as I wish you all the best for 2009, I’m sure we all hold a common goal to improve on our fifth place finish last year. I believe we’re on course.

All the best,
Alastair Kellock
