THOMSON RETURNS FOR FIRHILL THRILLER PDF Print
Thursday, 11 December 2008

Hooker Fergus Thomson will make his return to first team action on Sunday (14 December) when Glasgow Warriors take on Bath in the Heineken Cup at Firhill (kick-off 2pm).

In what has been described as one of the most exciting games of the season, the Warriors were narrowly defeated by Bath 35-31 last weekend at The Rec and are looking to make a positive statement ahead of their return to Magners League duties against Edinburgh on Boxing Day (kick-off 7:30pm). Glasgow currently sit second in the Magners League table.

Head coach Sean Lineen said: “It’s important the boys make a statement after last weekend’s game. It was entertaining but it wasn’t a win.

“Bath have made it quite clear that they’re coming here looking to win but the crowd at Firhill have been fantastic and they’ll be our 16th man on Sunday.”

Thomson lines up in an entirely new front row from the one that faced Bath just last weekend with Justin Va’a replacing Kevin Tkachuk and Moray Low being promoted ahead of Ed Kalman.

In the second row, Scotland ‘A’ international Dan Turner comes in for captain Alastair Kellock who is resting a shoulder injury. Dan Parks will wear the captain’s armband in Kellock’s absence.

David Lloyd 1872 Cup
Glasgow Warriors will seek to retain the David Lloyd 1872 Cup when The Biggest Team in Glasgow faces Edinburgh in back-to-back fixtures over the festive period. The team with the best aggregate points score over their two meetings in the Magners League will lift the Cup.

The Warriors travel to Murrayfield on Boxing Day for the opening fixture (kick-off 7:30pm) before the finale takes place at Firhill on Friday 2 January (kick-off 3pm).
